John Terry has quite ridiculously claimed that Chelsea’s current crop of youngsters are better than those at Champions League semi-finalists Monaco.
Monaco won the French title with a raft of players aged 23 or younger like Fabinho, Thomas Lemar, Bernardo Silva (now at Manchester City), Tiemoue Bakayoko, Benjamin Mendy and Kylian Mbappe.
In contrast, Chelsea won the Premier League with no player in the same age bracket starting more than three league games. Nathaniel Chalobah and Ruben Loftus-Cheek were largely restricted to the bench.
The Blues have won the FA Youth Cup four years in a row but there is clearly a blocked pathway to the first team.
Terry said at his Aston Villa unveiling: “Monaco have a couple of youngsters and everybody is saying how good they are. Believe me, we have got better players at Chelsea.”
If John Terry is saying we need to play youth because they're better than Monaco's, then maybe we should play them @ChelseaFC
