CHELSEA AGREE POGBA FEE
Dearie me, things are starting to get very silly indeed. Not only do The Sun claim on Saturday that Manchester United are making enquiries about Neymar, but they also report that Chelsea have agreed a £69m fee with Juventus for Paul Pogba.
The Sun say that Pogba will now discuss personal terms ahead of a move, which is basically them putting their necks on the line with this one. What happens if it turns out to be balderdash?
Given that Kevin de Bruyne is moving for a fee apparently close to £50m, you could knock us down with a feather if Juventus agree to sell Pogba for that fee this summer. He could be the best player in the world in three years, and Juve will want a fee to reflect that.
Still, if it does happen then The Sun got themselves a whopping exclusive that no other paper had. Hmmm.
ALLARDYCE IN AT SUNDERLAND
With Sunderland’s season already feeling like another sorry mess, it seems that the club may be preparing to make a managerial change. It turns out appointing a manager on a one-year deal after he rejected the offer at first before being eventually persuaded isn’t the greatest foundation for long-term sustainability. Who knew?
The manager Sunderland will turn to is Sam Allardyce, exactly the name we all thought they would appoint in the summer. Big Sam has presumably enjoyed his jaunt in Spain over the summer and is ready to get back to keeping sides in the Premier League while playing unattractive football. That’s exactly what Sunderland need right now.
The Daily Mirror report that there is a suspicion within Sunderland that Dick Advocaat will walk away from the club should this rotten start continue and he is prevented from bringing in players.
PATO COMING TO ENGLAND?
Just for a minute, can we all pretend that it’s 2010 and get incredibly excited that Alexandre Pato might be coming to the Premier League? We can? Oh good.
ESPN are reporting that Stoke and Sunderland are both interested in the former AC Milan forward, now playing for Sao Paulo on loan from Corinthians. He’s still only 25, which means he might have found some sort of time-bending vortex.
Pato has basically had a rotten time of it since bursting onto the scene with Milan after moving from Internacional. He has scored 18 goals in 35 games for Sao Paulo this year, leading to these rumours of English interest.
We’re going to be cynical and suggest that this sounds like an agent trying to get his client a piece of that sweet Premier League money pie.
