MULLER WANTS UNITED MOVE
Does he though? Does he really?
This is the big claim in the Sunday Express. They say that ‘Muller has confided in friends that he is interested in a move to United alongside Schweinsteiger’. What sort of friendship group makes sure to keep the Sunday Express (and only the Sunday Express) informed? How can you get away with writing that?
Anyway, we remember those glorious days when Sergio Ramos wanted a move to Manchester United, and that turned out fine.
The difference here is that we don’t believe a word of it. Here’s what Muller had to say on Saturday: “It was a super performance and despite the success of the previous seasons, we showed we still have the hunger and that we’ll keep pushing, even when we’re 3-0 up.
“We want to maintain this mentality and we want to be champions again, a fact we underlined against Hamburg. We want the other clubs in Germany to know that we’re not just here for fun.”
Start packing those bags.
SPURS TO COMPLETE BERAHINO DEAL
Goodness me Tottenham need a striker. I mean really need one. How can a team who finished fifth the previous season start the next campaign with one fit forward, who the manager promptly admits isn’t fit?
Anyway, it looks like the most logical move of the summer may be around the corner. The Sunday Mirror reports that Spurs will seal a deal for Saido Berahino this week. Again, why not weeks ago?
The paper claims that West Brom will sell Berahino for £20m, and that the striker will earn £100,000 a week at White Hart Lane.
Interestingly, the report from Saturday evening contains the following nugget: ‘The La Liga club are struggling to meet the £15 million fee Spurs want for Soldado but a £4 million loan deal for the season is a possibility’.
Erm, he’s already moved?
ROMA BID £25M FOR ZOUMA
Well this is an interesting line from the Mirror, who claim that Roma are to offer £25m for Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma.
We thought that Zouma was set to become part of Chelsea’s long-term solution in central defence, having been purchased from St Etienne for £12m. Chelsea would obviously like to double their money, but isn’t Zouma a little more integral to the future than that?
The paper also mentions a season-long loan deal as an alternative, which makes a lot more sense. Even so, he’s the back-up central defender, and Mourinho would be loath to lose him. Perhaps it all relies on what happens with John Stones.
