Torres tips ‘future’ Premier League title for Spurs

Fernando Torres has spoken of his admiration for Tottenham, tipping the north Londoners to win the Premier League title soon.

Tottenham missed out on a first top-flight title win since 1961 last season, battling Leicester for the crown until the final two months.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side eventually capitulated in their quest, finishing 11 points behind the Foxes, and third behind bitter rivals Arsenal.

Vincent Janssen and Victor Wanyama have arrived at White Hart Lane for a combined £28m as Tottenham look to build on their recent progress this coming season, and the club are now on their pre-season tour of Australia.

They will face Atletico Madrid in the International Champions Cup on July 29, and Torres – who rejoined the Spanish side permanently this summer – described them in glowing terms.

“It’s an amazing club, they have amazing fans,” he said. “When I was in England, it was always special to go to White Hart Lane and play against them.

“Pochettino is doing a great job mixing these talented young players they have with more experienced players.

“They’re doing things really well. Last season they were really close to winning the Premier League and they are on their way, but in the future they will do it.”
