Tottenham willing to sell Alderweireld – report

Tottenham are understood to be ready to sell Toby Alderweireld after failing to agree a new contract with the centre-half.

Alderwiereld has been in negotiations with Spurs over extending his current agreement, which runs until the end of next season. But, according to The Times, talks have broken down.

The Belgium centre-half is said to want around £150,000 a week – three times his current salary – but Tottenham are only willing to offer £110,000 a week.

The club are keen to retain their current wage structure and Mauricio Pochettino is said to agree with the board’s stance.

Unless a compromise is found, then Spurs are said to be willing to sell Alderweireld at the end of the season.

The defender’s current terms mean that this summer is the final opportunity Spurs have to recoup a figure close to his market value, which would be in excess of £50million in the current market.
