United dealt Griezmann blow by Atletico president

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has insisted that Antoine Griezmann will remain at the Spanish club for a “long time”.

The Telegraph reports that Manchester United are prepared to pay the Frenchman’s €100 million (£86 million) release clause in his contract at the La Liga side.

And Atleti coach Diego Simeone suggested this week that he would let Griezmann depart if he asked to leave the club.

However, Cerezo has different ideas and has vowed to do everything possible to keep Griezmann on their books for the long term.

“There are many offers,’ Cerezo said. “I don’t know what will come of Manchester United’s interest. What I can say though is that Griezmann will be an Atlético player for a long time.”

“He [Griezmann] is in an extraordinary moment. He is working well, he has got back on the scoresheet. He is currently in great form and it’s normal that the top clubs in the world want him. I’m not surprised that those that can afford him are seeking him.”
