Benfica defender and reported Manchester United target Victor Lindelof reportedly came close to signing for Middlesbrough last season.
Widespread reports suggest that the Red Devils will look to secure Lindelof’s services during the upcoming January transfer window with talks thought to be underway on a £38million move.
United spent £150million in the summer transfer window and the United top brass are understood to be reuluctant to spend more unless a top target, such as Lindelof, becomes available.

The Gazette claims the Sweden international came close to joining Boro in January but they agonisingly missed out.
The player and Benfica were happy to make the move happen with Boro believing they had a deal in place three times only for it to fall through as the Portuguese club started to move the goal-posts.
Lindelof was due to arrive on a six month loan with a view to a £5million permanent switch before Benfica are understood to have demanded extra clauses on three occasions.
An injury to Lisandro Lopez meant Lindelof got his chance in the starting XI and since then the defender has been linked with some of the biggest clubs in world football.
