Louis van Gaal has admitted that Manchester United are considering signing another full-back.
Ashley Young has been ruled out for “a long time” with a groin injury, with the 30-year-old joining fellow full-backs Antonio Valencia (foot), Luke Shaw (leg) and Marcos Rojo (shoulder).
Van Gaal had positive news with regards to the fitness of Matteo Darmian, but the Dutchman remains keen to invest in reinforcements in the transfer window.
“When you see our luck with the full-backs this season – only Darmian is fit. I need full-backs.
“I have started with Valencia, Shaw, Rojo, Darmian and Young, sometimes, and they are all injured – only Darmian is now back.
“We are looking for a level but clubs don’t want to sell. It is difficult. You think it is so easy.
“I used youngsters a lot of times,” Van Gaal added.
“[Cameron] Borthwick-Jackson and [Guillermo] Varela are doing great but the level at United is high. It is very difficult for youngsters to do that every week. That is why we have to look for reinforcements. We are looking but the clubs don’t want to sell. Everybody thinks it is easy but it is not so.”
