Louis van Gaal claims that Manchester United have been “very unlucky this season with the decisions of the referee” after the Reds came within a whisker of being knocked out of the FA Cup.
Anthony Martial’s late equaliser earned United a quarter-final replay after Dimitri Payet’s free-kick had given the Hammers the lead.
Payet could have been sent off for a second yellow card – for diving – just minutes before his goal.
Van Gaal clearly feels United were also harshly treated during Thursday night’s 2-0 defeat to Liverpool.
“I have already said after the match against Liverpool we can discuss every decision of the referee,” Van Gaal said. “But I can only say we are very unlucky this season with the decisions of the referee.
“The man has to decide within one second. I can see the video. When you see the two goals Liverpool scored, is it a penalty? And the second goal is offside.
“I have said a referee has to decide within a second, that’s why I’m in favour of a fourth referee with a video and I said that 30 years back,” he added.
“I have made exercises for referees in my function as head of the coaches’ federation if it is not better but Fifa has to install that, but they are coming now with new rules, I think. I hope so because it is so important to make the right decisions.”
