Louis van Gaal has been given an ‘extravagant’ bottle of wine by Manchester United executive vice chairman Edward Woodward to celebrate victory over Liverpool.
The Dutchman was heading home after Friday night’s 3-1 win over Derby to celebrate with his wife and the expensive gift.
The gesture illustrates the faith Woodward still holds in the Dutchman despite pressure from the fans and media.
Asked how he would celebrate FA Cup victory over the Rams, Van Gaal replied: “I will come back and my wife is at home because she was in the Netherlands, and the wine is already open.
“We drink a nice bottle of wine, probably the most expensive wine, because I have received that from Ed Woodward.
“Because I get always expensive wine when we beat an opponent of out the top six.
“I don’t want to mention the name because it is a little bit extravagant.”
