Louis van Gaal was at a loss to explain Marcis Rojo’s horror 45 minutes against Everton on Sunday.
The Argentine was substituted at half-time having completed just 54.2% of his passes and failed to make a single tackle as Toffees winger Gerard Deulofeu had him on toast.
He was replaced by Timothy Fosu-Mensah at half-time and the young Dutchman set up Anthony Martial’s goal in the 1-0 win over the Toffees.
Van Gaal said: “I think Rojo has a problem with his jet lag, otherwise I cannot imagine.
“So I changed him, and I have seen the space on the right side and I said that to Timothy that you have to take profit of that and when a player is doing that, that is also a bit of luck for the manager but every credit is for Timothy not the manager.”
