Pierre van Hooijdonk admits he thought former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Robin van Persie was an “ar*ehole” after the two clashed last year.
Van Hooijdonk’s comments come after the two exchanged words during the 2014 World Cup, with the former Nottingham Forest forward saying the Netherlands should drop Van Persie and then that Manchester United were trying to force him out of the club while the former Arsenal man was struggling to break into the first team at Old Trafford.
Van Persie responded in kind, telling his former Feyenoord team-mate to “stop creating problems” and “stick to playing golf” after Van Persie had led the Netherlands to third place in Brazil, scoring four goals in the process.
“Obviously he has more problems with me than I with him,” Van Hooijdonk told Derksen &.
“I may have been too soft on him, so people could not say I wanted to take revenge on him when I reacted back then.
“I don’t know what his problem is. This says more about him than about me, but I did think for a second: you ar*hole.”
Van Persie is currently off being an ar*ehole at Fenerbahce.
