Jan Vertonghen has accused Leicester of employing a ‘kick and run’ style in order to beat Tottenham.
The Foxes secured a 1-0 victory against Spurs in midweek thanks to Robert Huth’s header, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side aggrieved to walk away from White Hart Lane with nothing to show for their efforts.
Spurs had 21 shots to Leicester’s 10, 16 corners to Leicester’s eight, and more than 60% possession, but could not find a way through Claudio Ranieri’s side.
Vertonghen admitted Leicester’s style of play ‘frustrated’ Spurs, saying: “They play the ball up to their strikers and are good from set pieces. We knew they would do that. They play that game very well,” he said.
“They always approach every game in the same way, so we knew what to expect – they kick every ball they get long and run. And when they don’t have the ball, they all defend. But it works for them.
“They know what they are doing in every single way. Everyone knows what their qualities are. It’s frustrating but they prepare well.”
