Wagner: Huddersfield didn’t need luck to beat Man Utd

There was nothing lucky about Huddersfield’s 2-1 win over Manchester United, says Terriers’ boss David Wagner.

Huddersfield stunned the Premier League title-hopefuls with a slick first half display, and Wagner insists it was a fully deserved victory for his troops.

“They have done it because of the attitude we have shown, the fighting spirit,” he said. “I can say that wasn’t luck, it was deserved.

“We had to change the idea of our game, we sat deeper and wanted to break them down in transition. It worked out, but we will still that we’ve seen a top-class team in United. It’s a big, big day for everyone in Huddersfield.

“Even when we won games at the start of the season, I said you have to leave the past in the past. That’s what we did after the we lost game too. We learned lessons from the defeat by Tottenham.

“I haven’t thought about why Manchester United weren’t at their best. They have played a lot of games and they had injury problems. It could be they are not at their freshest, but we didn’t think about that.

“If this is our moment, we have to grab it, which is what the players did. Small Huddersfield have beaten Man Utd and it one of the proudest moments in my managerial career.

“It’s another chapter in the fairytale we started nearly two years ago. It has shown everything is possible in football. Today was our moment. It makes everyone very happy and very proud.”
