Theo Walcott admitted that Crystal Palace “wanted it more” from kick-off against Arsenal.
The Gunners fell to a 3-0 defeat against relegation-battling Palace on Monday, a result that surely ends their hopes of finishing in the top four.
They are now sixth, level on points with Everton, and seven behind fourth-placed Manchester City.
Walcott, who captained the side at Selhurst Park, was quick to apologise to the fans.
“The biggest thing is letting the fans down tonight. We all did. That’s not Arsenal at all,” Walcott told Sky Sports.
“We’ve let them down tonight, and we need to respond. And that’s only going to come from hard work in training.
“All we can do is apologise for that performance tonight I think they just wanted it more. You could tell they wanted it more. You could sense that from the kick-off and it was an uphill battle towards the end there.
“We thought we had got out of this little patch and, hopefully, we haven’t been dragged straight back into it. But, judging on that performance tonight, it looks like we have.”
