Arsene Wenger has hailed the return of Danny Welbeck to the Arsenal starting line-up while he insisted that he must “manage” his time on the pitch.
Welbeck started his first match for the Gunners since May 2016 in Saturday’s 5-0 demolition of Southampton in the FA Cup fourth round.
The striker bagged twice and set up Theo Walcott for his first before being substituted with the Gunners in command.
“He is very sharp,” said Wenger. “Physically he is ready. But we must manage the time we play him and rest him.
“In the next month he will be completely fit. To come out of what he went through, you have to be mentally strong.”
When asked about the performance of Welbeck and Walcott against Southampton, Wenger said: “I am pleased first of all with their performance.
“We have scored many goals this season and Danny was not there so to add him to the squad gives us huge offensive potential.
“I have to use the strikers in the right moment without destroying the balance of the team.
“I will add Perez who contributed well on Saturday. We have many players who can produce and score.”
