Danny Welbeck has hinted that Arsenal’s display against Swedish side Ostersunds may have been hampered by the artificial pitch.
Surrounded by snow drifts at the Jamtkraft Arena and playing on an unfamiliar 4G pitch, a strong Arsenal side overcame trying conditions to win 3-0.
Nacho Monreal and an own goal by Sotirios Papagiannopoulos put the Gunners two goals up inside the first 24 minutes before Mesut Ozil added another midway through the second half.
“The pitch was hard, l knew coming here it would be difficult, with the players they’ve got they like to keep the ball, and we had to keep our cool, be patient,” Welbeck told BT Sport.
“Maybe we could have played the ball forward a bit quicker, try to catch them out, but it was a professional start.
“It’s a 3G pitch. I made sure I did my rehab. You hear stories, but I felt fine, just looking to get more minutes under my belt after injuries.”
