Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is not playing his “preferred system” at Arsenal.
The Gunners have played with a back three since around March, beating Manchester City and Chelsea in the FA Cup with the formation.
But many fans feel the system is no longer needed, and Jamie Carragher admitted his surprise that Wenger was still using it.
Arsenal used four in defence against BATE Borisov in their 6-0 Europa League win, but Wenger suggested that three at the back will still be the club’s system.
“Yes, I decided to play with a back four,” Wenger said.
“It is my preferred system. But I adjust always what suits the players, the quality of the players, the balance of the team.
“I went to a back four [against Manchester United] as we were 2-0 down and I put on an offensive player as we had to come back. But it can change.”
