Arsene Wenger says that the Champions League has “lost some attraction power”.
Viewing figures for Europe’s premier competition have dwindled since BT Sport won the rights to televise the games in 2015.
This is the first season Arsenal will spend out of the Champions League in 20 years, with the Gunners only managing to qualify for the Europa League last season.
Wenger insists that the competition has lost much of its lusre in recent years.
“I think that, in the group stage, there are not many interesting games,” he said. “You choose only one or two games.
“Look at the audiences. It has lost some attraction power,” the Frenchman added, stating that the group stages had become “a routine”.
The Europa League is indeed where it’s at.
