Arsene Wenger has rubbished the suggestion that Barcelona could join the Premier League.
The idea of Barcelona leaving La Liga for a different league has been mooted in recent weeks during the Catalan independence referendum.
The Spanish government has declared said referendum illegal and the result inadmissible, but the situation has reached boiling point in the country.
Barca took part in a general strike in the region on Tuesday, with no training or stadium tours taking place as a result.
Arsenal manager Wenger insists the idea of Barcelona playing their league football in England would simply not work.
“I hope Barcelona continue playing in Spain. It would break the geographical unity and common sense,” he told beIN Sports.
“Why don’t they invite Celtic or Rangers to the Premier League who are already part of Great Britain, that would have more sense than inviting Barcelona.
“On the other hand if the politics between Spain and Catalonia don’t go well it would signify support from England for Catalonia and that would not be welcomed internationally.”
