Arsene Wenger has explained Alexis Sanchez’s surprise omission from Arsenal’s squad to face Bournemouth on Sunday.

The Chilean did not travel with the Arsenal squad to the south coast for this weekend’s game, with rumours circulating over his future.

Manchester City were considered frontrunners for his signature but Manchester United are now confident of securing the forward.

Liverpool have also been linked, but his future appears to be in Manchester.

Wenger was quizzed on the situation on Sunday, with Sanchez not even on the bench to face Bournemouth.

“Don’t read too much in it because even I don’t know really what way it will go,” the Arsenal manager told Sky Sports.

“His situation is not completely decided one way or the other.

“You want to focus on the players who are on the pitch.”

He added that a decision will be made “imminently” on Sanchez’s future.
