Arsene Wenger says Olivier Giroud is keen to stay at Arsenal and win back his place despite the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette.
Giroud has been linked a move away from the Emirates, with Everton, West Ham, Marseille, Borussia Dortmund and Lyon all credited with an interest.
The France centre-forward had limited opportunities last season, when Alexis Sanchez was preferred up front, and with the club-record signing of Lacazette from Lyon, it seems Giroud’s playing time will be in short supply again this term.
But, according to Wenger, the striker is up for the challenge.
“Giroud fancies the competition,” Wenger said. “As a manager, you have him on your back, wanting to play.
“He fights hard, you know. I like the way he responds to what’s happening. He is focused and determined and showed that on the tour.”
