Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that he will not plan his retirement from football management in advance, but instead make the decision impulsively.
Wenger has been in charge at Arsenal since September 1996, and has faced regular questions over the possible date of his retirement.
Referring to Alex Ferguson, Wenger says that he will not be tempted into planning his departure only to then go back on that call. Fergie announced his retirement in 2002, before staying on for another decade.
“I will retire, don’t worry,” Wenger said. But no, I haven’t decided on a plan yet. I think it can be more instinctive and impulsive than that.
“I’ve heard that so many times, ‘Next year I will retire’ and then they continue, or go somewhere else.
“I think one thing is for sure that, when I retire, I will really retire.”
Something about jumping before being pushed, Arsene.
