Arsene Wenger says Arsenal will only sign a player on deadline day if Lionel Messi knocks on his door.
The Gunners have signed only Mohamed Elneny this month as they look to compete on three fronts: the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.
Outgoings are expected at the Emirates as opposed to incomings, with Mathieu Debuchy and Serge Gnabry reported to be heading out on loan. The French right-back has been linked with Aston Villa and Sunderland, while Charlton are interested in Gnabry.
Asked whether Arsenal could make any more signings with the deadline closing in, Wenger replied: “99% no.”
The Frenchman added: “If Messi knocks on my door at 5.50pm I will not say ‘please go back to Barcelona’.”
On the whole transfer window, Wenger said: “The whole period was much quieter than I expected. The fact that we are all here means it is still quiet.
“If possible, I would have been open to one more but there is a rarity of players.”
