Arsene Wenger has admitted that Thomas Lemar rejected a move to Arsenal on Deadline Day.
The Daily Mirror’s John Cross had reported that Arsenal pulled out of a deal to sign Lemar because there was not enough time to complete the move, a claim presumably leaked by the club but one that made no sense.
Now, Wenger says that it was Lemar that actually rejected the deal. However, Wenger says that Arsenal intend to go back in for the France international, although that presumably depends on whether they qualify for the Champions League.
“€100m for Lemar? Yes all true, I wanted him,” said Wenger while working as a pundit for Telefoot in France.
“He decided to stay at Monaco, but we will come back for him.”
You will, Arsene. But unless the club has put out the bin fire and started performing to its full capability, you won’t tempt him.
