Wenger predicts points tally needed to win title

Arsene Wenger believes that it will take 82 to 86 points to win the Premier League title this season.

Wenger has led Arsenal to six victories in their first nine games of the Premier League season, with the Gunners trailing leaders Manchester City on goal difference alone.

City, Arsenal and Liverpool all have 20 points at this stage of the campaign, and that trio are the current bookmakers’ favourites to claim the title come May.

Speaking at the club’s Annual General Meeting on Monday morning, Wenger, who is seeking to deliver a first top-flight crown since since 2004, says that Arsenal can compete.

“I believe we have a complete team in a very competitive league,” he said.

“If you look now it is 20 points which means the championship will be decided between 82 to 86 points and what we have learned since the start of the season is every game is a fight and you need absolutely to be at your best to win.

“That means we have to be really focused on details, keeping the energy inside our club but even more inside our team as every single detail can get you points.

“We have an important month in front of us. The end October and start of November is important because we have many big games and having our injured players back could play a key part in that.”
