Wenger quizzed over moves for trio, says Auba would fit in

Arsene Wenger says that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would fit in at Arsenal, but moves for him, Jonny Evans and Bordeaux winger Malcom are all unlikely.

Aubameyang has been linked with Arsenal many times over the years, but is a reported target for the club this month with Alexis Sanchez headed to Manchester United.

It looks like a phenomenal deal for the Gunners on paper – we are still looking for the catch – but Wenger admits it may be too good to be true.

“I have nothing to add to that. This kind of thing is better when it’s secret,” he said.

“You announce it when it’s over the line. Nothing else [other than Sanchez] is close.”

Aubameyang is currently at odds with Dortmund over his attitude, with manager Peter Stoger admitting they “cannot comprehend” his “conduct”.

Asked whether the striker would fit in at Arsenal, Wenger replied: “A character can be very positive or very negative. Overall you look at the achievements over his career and if he has done well the character has been used in a positive way.”

Wenger was then quizzed over moves for both Malcom and West Brom defender Evans.

“I don’t think it is close,” he said of Malcom. “No, I don’t think so.”

On Evans, he replied: “Nothing to add at the moment.”
