Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hailed Mesut Ozil’s “gem” of a goal after his side beat Newcastle United 1-0.
A beautiful volley from Ozil was enough to give the Gunners three points and move them into the top four – with Tottenham playing later on Saturday against Manchester City.
Despite the tight nature of the scoreline, Wenger thinks Arsenal dominated proceedings at the Emirates Stadium.
“Overall we deserved to win – we had plenty of chances. In the final 10 minutes we became edgy,” Wenger said. “Overall, I feel we dominated.
“It was physically difficult today after three games in six days.
“Ozil’s goal was a gem. Good that he scores important goals. That was a great goal.
“The strange thing in our last games is that our displays have been good but we didn’t win. That’s why it’s important to win today.
“I had an eye on Jack Wilshere. He takes advantage from long preparation and good stamina.
“Ainsley Maitland-Niles could have had a goal. He was sharp.”
