Arsene Wenger has predicted that Daniel Sturridge could be the best player at Euro 2016.
Sturridge is expected to be chosen among Roy Hodgson’s 23-man England squad after hitting form and fitness in time for the conclusion to Liverpool’s season.
The striker has hit five goals and provided one assist in his last eight matches for the Reds, and appears to have overcome his injury problems.
Arsenal have been linked with a move for the 26-year-old previously, and Wenger has predicted Sturridge to impress this summer.
Asked who he feels will win the Euros, Wenger replied: “It is a difficult question. I am as bad as the press at predictions.
“I believe France has a good opportunity because they are traditionally good at home.
“You have to consider Germany and Spain and outsiders such as Belgium and England.
“The first round will be a warm-up and the competition will be exciting in the last 16.
Wenger was then asked who he believes will be the star player this summer, to which he responded: “The tournaments, we have many surprises.
“In Portugal [Euro 2004], the player of the tournament was [Theo, Greece midfielder] Zagorakis so that shows it can be anybody.
“I think [Paul] Pogba or [Antoine] Griezmann, or [Daniel] Sturridge – who has not had a long season – could do well.
