Wenger v Koeman: The ‘furious bust-up’ in detail

Matt Stead

Arsene Wenger and Ronald Koeman engaged in a ‘furious bust-up’ on Tuesday. There was plenty of fury, and many ups were busted.

The two managers exchanged words in the tunnel after Arsenal’s 0-0 draw with Southampton at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday.

According to numerous sources, Wenger had said to referee Lee Mason and and fourth official Craig Pawson, after disagreeing with numerous decisions: “It’s always the same with you.”

Koeman then replied to Wenger: “No, it’s always the same with you.”

The Dutchman added: “You had 10 chances to score and couldn’t take any of them so why have a go at them?”

The above transcript has been described as a ‘tunnel bust-up’ by the Daily Mail, the Daily Express, the Daily Telegraph and the Daily Mirror. Sky Sports have gone with the slightly more subdued ‘Ronald Koeman confronts Arsene Wenger after stalemate’, while the Guardian insist this is a ‘row’.

Furious. Bust-up.
