Wenger warns Spurs that stars will leave for money

Arsene Wenger knows how it feels to try and compete with clubs like Manchester United, City and Chelsea when you are offering lower wages.

He has warned Tottenham that they will struggle to keep hold of players like Kyle Walker, Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane if they continue to pay less than their rivals.

Walker is the first Tottenham player who may leave this summer, with reports that he is interested in the riches available at City considering he apparently earns less than £60,000 a week.

Wenger tried to compete at the top end of the Premier League when his financial hands were tied by Arsenal’s stadium move and lost a series of players to City in particular.

Ahead of the north London derby clash on Sunday, Wenger has predicted that Tottenham will lose players over the coming seasons.

“For a longer time, if the budget is too much different, it’s impossible,” he said.

“When you get to a level, at some stage the best players want to be paid like the other players at that level.

“If the differential is too big, you’re never able to keep your best players.”
