Football this season has been unpredictable, particularly in the Barclays Premier League with Leicester looking to finish top in one of the biggest upsets in history. This summer, the Euros are back and with them being held in France this year, the French are strong favourites, alongside Italy, Germany, Spain, and Belgium to win.
However, there are huge bets being put on in an attempt to predict who this year’s top goalscorers are going to be. With Robert Lewandowski, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Thomas Muller, Edin Džeko and Artyom Dzyuba topping the 2016 Euro Championships Qualifying top goal scorers table, it’s anyone’s game. When you place a bet on a football game the thrill is exhilarating but it is always good to do your research first. More often than not, the top goal scorers in the Euro often come from the team that wins it – a good example of this is Spain winning Euro 2012 and Fernando Torres being one of the top goal scorers with three goals. Therefore, we’ve put together some predictions on who could be the top goal scorer for Euro 2016.
Graziano Pellè is going to be one of the top players to watch out for at this year’s Euros. The Italian professional who plays as a striker for English club Southampton has had a successful time during the 2015/16 season, scoring key goals such as Southampton’s first goal in a European competition since 2003, scoring twice against Manchester United and again against Chelsea to secure the 3-1 win. He has been described as a typical target man and his eye for goal as well as his height, strength and skill are all reasons to make sure to look out for him Euro 2016, having scored 13 goals in 34 appearances for the English club this season.
Thomas Müller seems to be at the top of the bookies favourites this year, and the German international featured in nine out of ten matches during Germany’s qualifying campaign for Euro 2016, scoring nine goals as Germany topped their group. He is said to be an attacking all-rounder and came up through the Bayern Munich youth squad and is a strong contender for the top goal scorer at this year’s Euro. He was the top goal scorer at the 2010 World Cup and was second best four years later.
Antoine Griezmann is a French international, who plays as a forward for Spanish club Atletico Madrid, and has been tipped by the bookies to be one of the top goalscorers at Euro 2016. Over his career in Spain, he has scored over 75 La Liga goals and the 25 year old was a part of the team that won the 2010 UEFA European Under-19 Football Championship in France, giving him a good chance of both winning the Euros with France and being one of the top goalscorers on his home soil.
Eden Hazard is an interesting prediction and if it was based on his form for Chelsea last season then there would be very little doubt that he would be amongst the top goalscorers for Euro 2016. However, this season has seen a very different side to Hazard’s form, with him enduring a 2,358 minute scoreless run across 30 matches until 31st January 2016 when he scored a penalty against MK-Dons in the FA Cup. Hazard also scored his first Premier League game of the 2015/2016 season, just four games to go before the end of the season on 23rd April 2016. Nevertheless, Hazard did score five goals in the Qualifiers for Belgium, and last year the top goal scorers in the Euros all scored a total of three goals each, which means that he may not have to be on top form in order to become the top goal scorer.
Jamie Vardy has been one of the key players in the success of Leicester City this season in the Barclays Premier League and he is looking to secure a firm place in the England team for this year’s Euros. Vardy is third in the Barclay’s Premier League top goalscorers this season, just two goals behind top goal scorer Harry Kane (another player to keep an eye on during Euro 2016) and has already scored twice in two appearances for the England side this year.
There’s a huge list of players that are tipped to be some of the top goalscorers in this year’s 2016 Euros. With Olivier Giroud, Cristiano Ronaldo, Romelu Lukaku, Manchester United and French international wonder-boy forward Anthony Martial, Diego Costa, Robert Lewandowski, Mario Götze, Zlatan Ibrahimović and Wayne Rooney all at the top of bookies choices, there’s a huge list to choose from when it comes to picking who you think will be Euro 2016’s top goal scorer.
