Jose Mourinho has refused to commit to a Premier League return for Eden Hazard against West Ham.
The Belgian was dropped for last weekend’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa but returned for the midweek 0-0 draw with Dynamo Kiev.
Also returning in that match was Nemanja Matic, but Mourinho’s comments suggest the central midfielder is far more likely to return at Upton Park.
Mourinho said: “The team’s performance and the results, because the victory over Aston Villa and the draw against Dynamo was positive, we could feel positive performances from individuals.
“Nemanja Matic came off the bench against Aston Villa and was man of the match three days later in Kiev.
“He [Eden Hazard] played the last match for 90 minutes and was part of the compact team that kept that clean sheet.”
So will he play against West Ham?
“I don’t know.”
Mourinho’s feelings towards Hazard may not be warmed by a story in Friday’s Daily Mail in which Neil Ashton suggests that Hazard ‘is finding Jose Mourinho’s mind games tough to take’. Ashton has clearly been briefed by somebody close to the Belgian.
