Wilshere already set for new Arsenal deal?

Jack Wilshere’s loan at Bournemouth must be going well, because reports on Wednesday claim that a new Arsenal deal is already being lined up.

The Sun say that Wilshere has held talks with Arsene Wenger about extending his contract at Arsenal following the end of his current loan spell. We can’t help but think that Arsenal and Wenger might prefer to see how Wilshere’s form and fitness pan out first.

The Sun use a source to bring us evidence for the news:

“Jack left because he wanted to get more first-team football to get his England spot back,” that source says.

“He loves Arsenal and wants to remain and the club and the chats he has had with the club have been very positive on both sides.

“Jack is desperate to stay and prove himself to everyone what a top-class player he is. The experience about Bournemouth should serve him well.”

Forgive us for hypothesising here, but this sounds an awful lot like someone in Wilshere’s camp talking up his chances of a new deal.

Also, a small point: The Sun report that Wilshere’s contract expires next summer, but it actually doesn’t end until summer 2018.
