Ian Wright believes Arsenal are capable of winning the Premier League – just two months after saying they were “a million miles away”.

Arsenal currently sit second in the Premier League after nine matches, and have won their last three games by scorelines of 3-0, 3-0 and 2-0 against Manchester United, Watford and Bayern Munich respectively.

The Gunners had a patchy start to the season, losing their opening game of the campaign 2-0 at home to West Ham. Said defeat elicited the following response from Ian Wright on BreatheSport:

“What an anti ******* anti climax ! So disappointing. We are a million miles away. There’s no pressure in trying to catch a Chelsea! The pressure is trying to lead a Chelsea.”

Just two months on from those comments, and now Gunners legend Wright believes the club “can chase Man City down,” and that these are “very, very exciting times” at the Emirates.

“The problem I had with Arsenal at the start of the season is you can’t predict when the defensive brilliance is coming. Now we’ve done it again,” Wright told BreatheSport.

“If Arsenal can continue to keep their defensive discipline and play that tight with Walcott, Sanchez and Ozil up front on the break, the Champions League doesn’t bother me.

“I don’t think we’re going to win the Champions League. We’ve got a better chance in the Premier League. They’ve got a very good opportunity this season.

“We can chase Man City down especially giving up possession like we did and catching people on the break. It is very, very exciting times.”
