Jonny Howson: Wants a positive response from Norwich against Wigan on Saturday

The Canaries suffered a 4-1 home drubbing by Aston Villa in Tuesday's quarter-final, squandering a host of chances when the sides were level early in the second half.

Despite having their Wembley dreams dashed, Howson plans on returning to winning ways when the Latics visit Carrow Road on Saturday.

"It is very important it doesn't carry on and when you get beat you always want to bounce straight back," Howson said.

"It was fairly even with both teams going at it for a large period of the game and I think it could have swung both ways, so it is disappointing especially to lose here at home.

"However, the good thing is we go straight into another game come Saturday.

"Yes we are disappointed with the result, but it is a case of moving on to the Wigan game now."

Chris Hughton should have Wes Hoolahan and Alex Tettey available for Saturday after the pair missed the defeat to Aston Villa.

While the Norwich boss would have liked to have carried momentum forwards, he accepts getting another positive result in the Premier League this weekend was always more important.

"Did we want to go through? Yes, absolutely we wanted to go through but our priority by far is to make sure we have got Premier League status next season," said Hughton.

"We have to take the defeat on the chin and then learn from it.

"They are good enough professionals and know we have to be better at the weekend, which is a real good opportunity at home to put things right.

"The players are down and disappointed because it was a semi-final at stake, but what we mustn't do is take away what they have achieved in the last couple of months and how good the team have been.

"It is my responsibility to make sure we get back on track."
