Hughton has tried to rectify the situation in recent weeks by playing two strikers, and although the change worked against Everton, his charges were frustrated by Southampton on Saturday.

"I am not going to say that we have been brilliant in front of goal because the stats haven't showed that," Hughton said.

"But we are working hard on it. In the last two games, I have played two up front to try to get those opportunities and against Everton we scored twice.

"We were up against a good side - they have shown that in their last couple of games, even their last couple of away games, playing well at Old Trafford and at Newcastle.

"In the end, we had to makes sure we didn't lose the game but I thought that we had the better chances."

One of those chances against Southampton came from a penalty when Grant Holt's spot-kick was saved by Artur Boruc.

But the Canaries manager expects Holt to bounce back from the disappointment.

Hughton added: "He'll be disappointed because he wants to score goals and it's one less opportunity.

"But he has been around too long and taken - and missed - too many penalties to let it affect him."

ah, Fergie is just having another pop at Rooney. He just wants to put him down whenever he gets a chance. Rooney is by far the best English player. Carrick is not far behind, mind. However, by elevating Carrick like that, Sir is having a dig at Wayne. Fergie is well-known for mind games like that. Good to see he's still feisty.
