Gylfi Sigurdsson goals either side of half-time secured a comfortable victory for Spurs, as the Canaries only managed one shot on target in the whole match.

Hughton felt after the game that Norwich were poor in possession but also recognised that Andre Villas-Boas' side were in top form.

"They have got an awful lot of quality on the pitch," he told Sky Sports.

"There are no complaints with the result. We needed to get a foothold in the game for longer periods, but we were up against a very impressive Tottenham team."

Hughton acknowledged that the timing of Sigurdsson's second goal, in the 49th minute, had dealt a major blow to Norwich's chances of a comeback.

He said: "We had better spells in the second half and we threatened more, so it was one that really hurt us.

"It is always going to be very difficult coming here, but it wasn't to be and we need to dust ourselves down and be better next week."

Norwich have now lost both league games away from home so far this season and Hughton wants his side to bounce back when they welcome Aston Villa to Carrow Road next Saturday.

"We need to respond next Saturday," he added.

"At the moment we are all hurting, it is a bad weekend for us. You don't sleep too much and it is normal stuff.

"That is the nature of our game but what we will do is close this game down and over the next day or so we will go over the video and see where we can improve."
