Fer has been drafted in after fellow midfielders Jonathan de Guzman and Stijn Schaars were ruled out through injury.

De Guzman has a groin problem which kept him out of Swansea's game at Southampton on Sunday, while PSV Eindhoven's Schaars misses out with a knee injury.

That has led to Louis van Gaal calling on 23-year-old Fer, whose last appearance for Holland came just over a year ago when he was a substitute in the 2-0 win over Turkey.

Fer told Dutch paper Algemeen Dagblad: "It's really fantastic that I am here again.

"The first months at Norwich City gave me a good feeling, and the experience here in England is fantastic. Fortunately I could adapt quickly. I now also want to show that I have developed myself with Holland."

Holland, who have already qualified for the 2014 World Cup, face Hungary in Amsterdam on Friday before completing their campaign with a trip to Turkey on Tuesday.

Fer added: "It's far too early to talk about the World Cup. But playing in Brazil against the best players of the world is a once-in-a-lifetime chance.

"I will do everything to be part of that, but I can only do it in one way: give everything at Norwich and take all chances I get at Oranje with both hands."

t's why Mourinho is so successful. He gives players a specific, limited set of functions to perform. They are but a cog in a machine. Do no more, do no less. I assume he learnt it from LvG :)

really hope that someone in the mainstream media spots that the Bayern manager played for and managed Barcelona quite well, and thinks to mention it in the build up. That would be really interesting.
