Despite dominating the game for large periods, Leroy Fer, Gary Hooper and Anthony Pilkington were all guilty of missing gilt-edged chances for the home side.

Cardiff rarely threatened but defended valiantly as Norwich burst forward on numerous occasions, and though Hughton was understandably disappointed with only a draw, he was happy with his side's overall performance.

"It's absolutely frustrating," Hughton told Sky Sports, "we had really long periods of control.

"Credit to Cardiff as they defended very well, but on the balance of play and chances we should've won comfortably.

"It certainly wasn't down to endeavour or the way we played. It's frustration because it should've been three points.

"They've defended very well and the keeper has had a very good game today.

"As the game went on you still felt it was going to come. In the end you thought it would be a goal scored through an own goal perhaps."

Having spent nearly £15million on strikers in the summer, Hughton would be forgiven for airing his grievances on a Norwich side that have scored just six goals in nine league games.

The former Newcastle boss continued to praise his side's dominant performance however, but lamented the end result.

"Whoever's on the pitch it's frustrating.

"If we hadn't played as well as we had today then it would be far more annoying, but we should've come away with a win today."

The game ended in controversial circumstances after midfielder Fer tapped into an empty net from a throw-in, where Cardiff keeper David Marshall was expecting to receive the ball after Alexander Tettey had received treatment.

Referee Michael Jones eventually ruled out the goal, citing that he had not blown the whistle for the throw to be taken, but Hughton was hesitant in pointing the finger of blame.

Speaking on the ruling surrounding the incident, Hughton said: "I'm not sure.

"I saw a throw-in and Leroy passing the ball back to the goalkeeper. I shall go and find out but I'm not sure what the ruling is in terms of disallowing the goal.

"We don't have too many problems with it. It's not the type of goal you want to score anyway."

ood lord that's got me unnecessarily excited. Damn you Storey. Cut to Liverpool being crushed under the wheels of Sparky's Stoke Machine and Firmino brought off the bench to no effect. It's the hope that kills you.

think he'll do quite well. My only reservation would be Kagawa, who had similar stats to Firmino in the bundesliga before he came, but time will tell.
