The Canaries captain's new two-and-a-half-year contract will keep him with the Carrow Road club until June 2016.

The 27-year-old is currently enjoying his second season with Norwich and has made 47 appearances for the Premier League club so far.

Bassong told the club's official website: "I'm really pleased, it is something I have been looking forward to doing.

"I think it is something really important to commit myself even more to the club.

"I had a little bad time with my fitness, as people know I missed pre-season and I had a knee injury and an operation.

"So I needed time to get back to my best and while I wasn't playing I was working hard on my fitness, so now I feel better and am back on track."

Manager Chris Hughton added: "We're delighted that we've had the opportunity to extend Seb's contract - somebody who has been an integral part of everything we've done so far and of course our player of the season last year."

e have the personnel. The trick is keeping them fit. Carrick and Blind have missed large chunks of the season, while the defence has been one muddled mess of intermittent stooges, all coming and going at various intervals thus far. We may be just short of title winning quality, but we're half way through. An injury crisis to either of the top two could change things. Optimistic, yes, but not unrealistic.

arish is the man to blame for this shambles. Pulis must be chuckling into his left over turkey sandwich. I pray this doesn't mean the Neil Warnock media machine will kick in now and he'll be back on the telly box.

e almost found a new way to lose, just when I thought it was getting boring Giroud does that. Although Arsenal are deservedly called 'soft' the entire midfield is out injured. Still must admit MU are managing to win despite a similar raft of absentees. Think the Gunners have good players but poorly coached.
