The Reds secured a fourth straight success on Tuesday, but were made to work for a 1-0 victory over dogged Ipswich.

The visitors to the City Ground had been reduced to nine men by the time Lewis McGugan saw an 84th minute deflect past a helpless Stephen Henderson.

"We got a break. It was a frustrating night," said Davies, who has now guided his team to 13 points from a possible 15 since returning to the Forest hot-seat.

Davies was delighted to see his side dig deep when required, with the games coming thick and fast at the moment for those chasing promotion and battling relegation in the Championship.

The Scot added: "We've got work rate out of them, we've got attitude out of them, we've got determination out of them.

"We're not always going to get that fluid, passing football and we've had that in our last three matches. What we got tonight was a grinding team who looked completely leggy and they dug in and got the result.

"Our energy wasn't crisp and quick, our passing wasn't crisp and quick but, as I said to them at the end 'I can't fault you'. They've given us all they've got again."

adly this is inevitable. No club outside the top 4/5 can hang on to anyone who shows that kind of talent anymore. Might be best for them to get as much as they can now while his stock is high and start again. On the plus side lads, Grant Holt is still available.
