Latapy relief at Caley win

Inverness assistant manager Russell Latapy was delighted to see Caley finally find a way to goal as they claimed a 1-0 home triumph over Partick.

Billy Mckay: Matchwinner

Billy Mckay's 62nd-minute strike ended a run of 524 minutes without a goal for Inverness and also handed John Hughes his first home win as manager.

For Latapy, however, just getting a goal was a huge relief, even more so as it proved the winner and kept Caley in the hunt for the European places.

"We just wanted anyone to score," he said. "I thought today, especially in the second half, we created a couple of chances. Both Greg Tansey and Billy Mckay had opportunities, but unfortunately neither hit the target.

"However, we were happy with the chances we created, while we defended well and you always give yourself a chance of winning games if you keep clean sheets."

Caley made the breakthrough as Ross Draper's header across goal made it all the way to the back post to where Mckay was lurking and he made up for an earlier miss with a simple finish.

Partick manager Alan Archibald was left to rue a disappointing second half performance from his side after the Jags created the better of the opportunities before the interval, Lyle Taylor forcing three impressive saves from Caley goalkeeper Dean Brill.

He said: "It was a game of two halves. In the first half, we were very good. We played to our strengths and caused Inverness no end of problems.

"However, in the second half we stopped doing what we had been doing in the first half, although fair play to Inverness because they upped their game after half-time."
