The Sun reports that Blackpool are keen to replace Ian Holloway, who left the Tangerines on Saturday to take over at Crystal Palace, with Ferguson.
The newspaper claims that Ferguson's frosty relationship with director of football Barry Fry could lead to him leaving London Road. The pair were involved in a public spat last month after Fry revealed Ferguson held talks with Nottingham Forest over the summer when the Reds were looking for a successor to Steve Cotterill.
Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston has told Sky Sports News that he hopes to appoint a new manager on Monday.
However, MacAnthony insists it will not be Ferguson, claiming Oyston could not afford to prise his man away.
"(That's the) funniest story I have ever read," MacAnthony said via his Twitter account. "Oyston isn't known for spending money and that would cost him millions!! No chance!"
