Brian McDermott: Pleased with a clean sheet

The Royals hit the crossbar via substitute Jimmy Kebe but could find no way through as they made it six draws from their opening 10 games as their search for an elusive first win goes on.

McDermott told Sky Sports: "There wasn't much in the game really. I thought we were in the ascendency. We kept a clean sheet so that gives us another thing to build on really.

"Out of the ten games we've drawn six so that tells you how close we are. We didn't feel we did enough with the ball, I thought both teams were a little bit nervous first half.

"Having said that we can move on now with our first clean sheet of this league."

He added: "Everyone's talking about the first win, I'm just talking about the game. We've got a point, we're closer to the people in front of us today and we've got our 11th game coming up now, at home to Everton, so we're looking forward to that game now and putting on a performance.

"We feel we needed to be better with the ball today and that's something we really need to work on, especially at home.

"We've done that, we've scored numerous amount of goals and we've not kept the clean sheet but today, we've kept the clean sheet."
