Pardew bemoans Newcastle loss

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew insists his side did not deserve to lose after going down 2-1 at Stoke.

The Magpies looked like ending a run of three successive league defeats after Papiss Cisse struck early in the second half but the visitors were denied by late goals from Jonathan Walters and Cameron Jerome.

"The improvement from Sunday was immense and we deserved to get something from today and we certainly didn't deserve to get beat that's for sure, we were the better side," Pardew told Sky Sports.

He felt Newcastle were denied a penalty which, if given, would have been crucial.

"There is a crucial moment in the game at 1-0 where I thought we had a handball and I just looked again and I think it is a penalty and then two sucker punches really and we have got beat," he said.

"Their keeper has made two good saves, and it is galling really as we are on this run and we are having setback after setback and I feel sorry for the players today as they were brilliant, sometimes you don't get what you deserve and we certainly didn't today.

"We made a couple of errors in those goals and that has cost us. We do not make many errors but we have tonight."

A number of players are missing for Newcastle and, although he does not see that improving for the weekend, Pardew insists the side he put out would be more than capable of winning most games.

"For the next game, possibly not," he said when asked about his injury problems, "but that team won't go far short if they play like that at home, they will get a result - it was much, much improved.

"In terms that we have a run of defeats that looks bad but in all honesty we should not have got beat tonight - our fans were brilliant and the next game is important."

adly this is inevitable. No club outside the top 4/5 can hang on to anyone who shows that kind of talent anymore. Might be best for them to get as much as they can now while his stock is high and start again. On the plus side lads, Grant Holt is still available.
