The home side forced Villa keeper Brad Guzan into several fine saves and also missed a penalty as they came close to racking up double figures.

The recently-aired anti-Benitez chants were few and far between at Stamford Bridge by the end of a dream performance, and the Spaniard cut a happy figure afterwards.

He said: "Everything impressed me. We have been talking before about the mentality of the team; attacking, creating chances we had good movement, we were good in defence. As a team we had the balance we are looking for.

"We have played some good games and this is one of the games. In terms of scoring goals, in terms of balance yes."

David Luiz again impressed in midfield, capping a confident performance with a thumping free-kick.

Benitez said: "I have said before he can play well in midfield and at centre-half.

"He's good in the air, can use both feet, can score goals and he can tackle. He has a lot of attributes."

m starting to think Roman may never actually be happy at the top level. If he wants all conquering fancy football I wonder if he'd be better off buying a lower division side then paying outlandish salaries to attract high caliber players too good for the division.
