Adkins: Proof of improvement

Southampton boss Nigel Adkins believes the 1-1 draw with Arsenal is a sign of their progress this season.

Saints were on the end of a 6-1 drubbing at Emirates Stadium in September but this time they were well worth their point - and it could easily have been all three - at St Mary's against the in-form Gunners.

"The lads yet again put a very good performance in and it just shows how far we've come," he said.

"At the start if the season we got a good spanking down at their place and today, I thought defensively we looked very solid.

"Tactically we were good and all round some really good performances.

"A good goal - I haven't seen the one that was disallowed, I don't know whether it was for offside or for pushing - but all round a good performance from the players yet again."

Saints moved out of the Premier League relegation zone on goal difference but Adkins is not getting ahead of himself.

"The league table's going to fluctuate," he added. "What it does demonstrate is that we're in there, we're in there fighting and we're fighting for each other."

m starting to think Roman may never actually be happy at the top level. If he wants all conquering fancy football I wonder if he'd be better off buying a lower division side then paying outlandish salaries to attract high caliber players too good for the division.
