Paul Scharner: Hamburg midfielder linked with Sunderland

Scharner left West Brom at the end of last season and took in a trial at Eintracht Frankfurt before signing a two-year contract with Hamburg.

However, the 32-year-old has struggled for regular first-team football during the first half of the season and could now head back to England on loan.

Reports have suggested that Sunderland are the club interested in signing the Austrian and Scharner is waiting to see what happens ahead of Thursday's deadline.

"There is yet again an interest in my services from a club in the Premiership," Scharner told the Hamburger Morgenpost.

"I expect them to put this in concrete terms in the next couple of days."

Scharner has made just four appearances in the Bundesliga this season and has featured for under an hour in total after also picking up one red card.

m starting to think Roman may never actually be happy at the top level. If he wants all conquering fancy football I wonder if he'd be better off buying a lower division side then paying outlandish salaries to attract high caliber players too good for the division.

hat is arguably the least inspiring England I have ever seen. There is not a single name in that list that makes me think I might actually want to watch this team. Not a one.
