The Canaries saw their winless run stretched to nine games on Saturday, but they were able to move eight points clear of the relegation zone with a stalemate at Carrow Road.

Hughton considers that to be progress, especially as club captain and talisman Grant Holt was ruled out prior to kick-off with a back complaint.

He told Sky Sports: "I think we have to look at the positives. Certainly we are a lot tighter as a unit and are obviously not conceding the goals.

"It's a home game today and we were hopeful. We had some disappointing news this morning with Grant Holt, who pulled out with a back spasm, which hurt us a little bit. We had to change our plans and thoughts going into the game.

"It's a home game so we're disappointed that we perhaps weren't as good in that final third as we would have liked, but we were solid against a really good Fulham team who have got quality in the team.

"As soon as the game finishes you are looking at other results around and you hope that results went for us. They haven't been too bad, but it has to be about our own performances.

"We now have a two-week break and we look forward to coming back refreshed for another home game against good opposition in Everton."

New boys

Hughton handed a home debut to Luciano Becchio on Saturday and a Premier League bow to Kei Kamara, and he believes there is more to come from both frontmen as they continue to find their feet in new surroundings.

On Becchio, he said: "I am pleased for him to get his first game. He'll learn about us, but we have brought him in because he is a player who has been scoring goals this season and is in good form and has good rhythm in his game. We're sure there is better things for him."

He added on Kamara: "What we make sure we do with every preparation and every injury is that we do it right. We have probably gone against the grain a little bit with Kei today because he only joined us on Thursday, having flown in on Wednesday.

"He had trained abroad, but regarding being up to speed with match play, it was a little bit of a risk putting him in today. Again, another one who hopefully there is better things to come from him."

ood lord that's got me unnecessarily excited. Damn you Storey. Cut to Liverpool being crushed under the wheels of Sparky's Stoke Machine and Firmino brought off the bench to no effect. It's the hope that kills you.

think he'll do quite well. My only reservation would be Kagawa, who had similar stats to Firmino in the bundesliga before he came, but time will tell.
